Although TRICOR is based in Calgary, Alberta. We have worked on projects across North America.

TRICOR DESIGN GROUP is a multi-faceted design office with experience in a variety of project types such as: custom houses, single family and multi-family residential, as well as commercial buildings design. Our team's diverse set of skills can create every aspect of a project from start to finish. Our expertise is not limited to project design, we also handle city permits, re-zoning applications, as well as Bylaw and Building code consulting.

2016 – CHBA ALBERTA

MAPLE LEAF AWARD

The Maple Leaf Award 2016 is presented to a CHBA-Alberta general member (non-builder) who contributed to the overall betterment of the industry in Alberta.

This year’s recipient is Mike Borkristl, president of Tricor Designs Group, who was inspired to pursue a career in home building by winning CHBA-Calgary Region’s Student House Design Competition.

Borkristl’s passionate belief and support for the design competition dates back to 1978 when he was invited to be a judge and has continued for almost four decades, including many years as chair. The competition now attracts 250 submissions a year, and has encouraged thousands of students to consider careers in the industry while strengthening the collaborative relationship with SAIT and high schools.

BOB WARD MEMORIAL AWARD

The Bob Ward Memorial Award is presented to a CHBA-Calgary Region general member for long standing years of volunteer service to the region.

This year’s recipient is Mike Borkristl, president of Tricor Designs Group, for 26 years of volunteer service to the association.

2017 – 2018 BILD CALGARY REGION

40 YEARS VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

Mike Borkristl, president of Tricor Designs Group, has been volunteering continuously for 40 years to the association. Although the Student house committee has been the longest committee Mike has served on, Mike also serves on many other committees such as the Inner City Committee, bylaw sustainment, and other task force groups including several involving liaison with the City of Calgary Planning departments.

Mike Borkristl heads up the Tricor team with over 40 years of designing projects not only in Calgary and surrounding areas but all over North America including Hawaii. Mikes career actually started very early in high school when introduced to the architectural world by a family member, Arnie Fullerton, one of the architects involved in Mount Royal College in Calgary. Spending an entire week in his office and spending time in a circular “think tank” was so cool and inspirational. It set the table for his future career. During Mike’s high school years he worked closely with his mentor and entered several design competitions, earning a win in the HUDAC (now BILD) student house competition, followed by a second win at the post-secondary level the following year.

Recruited by Nu-West Homes in the late 70’s to start his professional career, Mike met many of the future movers and shakers of the industry whom he designed many projects for, and started volunteering for the Home Builders association in 1977. From there Mike moved on to opening his own firm with a partner in 1980, then a second firm in 1982, and then Tricor Design Group on his own in 1985, all while enjoying a growing family of 4 children.

Over the years Mike has served on many committees and task forces, mostly geared towards improving relations with the City and City policies, including bylaws, and is constantly working towards making the industry and processes better for the entire industry. His design philosophy is more about creating homes and environments than just plain houses, and is constantly testing boundaries, innovative design solutions, adapting to an ever changing housing market, and has a strong focus on helping the younger generation learning about our industry through the Student House Competition at BILD .

Today Mike enjoys his grandchildren, takes pride in being a single digit handicap in golf, and spending time in his wood working shop. Although Mike has many top accomplishments and awards in his career, his greatest joy still remains meeting new people, and taking a blank piece of paper and having fun creating someone’s dream home.

With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Egypt, and a career started in the hub of Architecture world unlike any other, Dubai; Gouda has over 16 years of experience between Canada and Dubai in Design and Construction of various projects. To date, these projects include: Single-Family, Multi-Family, Med-Rise, High-rise, Commercial, Hospitality, Health, Education, and the list goes on. In addition to his passion for Designing and Building, Gouda enjoys the time away from man-made architecture to the beauty of architecture in nature with his caring wife and 2 kids who shares their father’s passion for nature and design.

Trish Krause brings over 20 years’ experience in Business Administration to our firm. Trish looks after all aspects of office administration, from phones to coordination of meetings and projects. Other duties include permit application paperwork and submissions to all municipalities required per project, including the liaison between planners, our team and the client.

Trish brings a friendly outgoing personality to our firm and ensures our clients the best of care from the beginning of their project until completion. Trish has a zest for life and her biggest a pride and joy is her grandchildren.
